50 Girlcrushes of 2013: Sarah Shahi
During my yearly re-watch of the criminally underrated and unjustly cancelled Life (which is now available on Hulu … first season is a gem), I found myself longing for Sarah Shahi to return to material that was just a little bit gritter, a little bit rougher and something that would showcase the side of her that we didn’t get to see on her USA dramedy Fairly Legal. Although, if she went back to kissing ladies again like her name was still Carmen de la Pica Morales, I wouldn’t have minded that either. As if in an answer to my prayers, the fangirl gods decided to give Sarah Shahi the role of Shaw on CBS’s Person of Interest, someone who would make Dani Reese want to run for the hills if she ever went toe to toe with her. Shaw is someone that would make most run for the hills. Well, except maybe Root, but more on that later. As Shaw, Shahi is formidable and the kind of person who would dig a bullet out of her own stomach and not so much as bat an eye. You want Shaw on your side because most who dare cross her do not live too long to regret it. What makes Shahi’s performance so great is that I know the woman is one big goofball off-camera, Exhibit A and Exhibit B, and not an ounce of that sweet creature is seen on screen. Plus, I always have a soft spot for people who have similar pop culture interests. She loves Dolly Parton. I mean, how could I not love that?
