sarabfans:

Dear 2014-

You have been a big year already. So many moments have happened in our short time together that feel like they are shaping my world both professionally and personally in really profound ways, so I wanted to write you a letter about how I feel about you. And since you are a year, you probably won’t write back. I think that’s pretty cool.

Starting the year together with the Grammy experience is one of the cooler things I’ve ever done with any year. Remember when we met my hero, Carole King? Me too. Remember when she changed my life by just simply being herself? Me too. That was awesome.

We’ve made some hard decisions together already as well that are about growth and surrender, and you have helped me commit to being someone who looks to the future while feeling so very grateful for the past. Thank you for that.

I feel optimistic about you. I’m inspired by the promises of walking with my head up into new and uncharted territory, and I appreciate that you don’t mind when I quote my own song titles to you in a letter. I feel like we will get to see much more of my fans together this year as I look into the summer months and consider all the touring opportunities that will bring me back to places I’ve not been in a long time. We have spoken about Europe, Australia, South America, and my friends in Asia as well… in addition to our dear friends here in North America. I feel like you and I are going to sing a lot. Mostly me doing the singing. You have pitch issues.

We are writing and finishing this book about my life, and feverishly trying to finish the “Waitress” musical. We are getting ready to launch some big plans for supporting “I Choose You” and the rest of songs on The Blessed Unrest. We are taking long walks through New York City, even when it’s cold, and discovering all the ways the winter settles into this place…recoiling and contracting in all the ways that makes it the perfect launch pad for the blooming of almost anything.

You have been a good friend to me already, 2014, and I just wanted to write to you and tell you that I’m glad you’re here.

*turns to face the audience*

And I’m glad YOU’RE here. Thanks for every little bit of encouragement and support and just general being-ness. I have big plans for this year, and I can’t wait to share more as the year unfolds. Me and 2014 are really happy to have you.

*winks, turns her head, and skips off the stage into a crowded but tiny clown car waiting in the wings that beeps and then drives off on a rainbow.*

Love,

Sara
